Gabby Douglas

Gabrielle Douglas 2012 Summer Olympic Gold and Bronze Medalist . Born December 21st , 1995 (17 years old ) in Virginia Beach ,VA . Gabby was introduced to gymnastic by doing a cartwheel , her older sister was a former gymnast and a competitive cheerleader . Her sister started to teach Gabby about the sport and soon Gabby began to teach herself how to do one hand cartwheel . Gabby started to practice gymnastic all around her house at the age of four . After two year Arielle ( Gabby's older sister ) Convince her mother to let Gabby to train in a local gym . Another two years was all it took for Virginia to crown Gabby as the new 2004 Gymnastics State Champion. Soon Gabby's task became clear she had to convince 
  her mother to allow her, the youngest, to move across the country in pursuit of her Olympic dream . Not only would she learn the skills needed to reach an Olympic level , but she would train under elite coach Liang Chow in West Des Moines . At age 14, having overcome a number of obstacles placed before her, Gabby left Virginia Beach and her family behind to train with Liang Chow. Since leaving home, Gabrielle has earned a Team Gold at the 2011 World Championships, placed first at the 2012 Olympic Trials , 2012 Olympic Team Gold and the 2012 Women’s Gymnastics Olympic All-Around Title. Making her not only the first African American to ever receive the All-Around title, but also the only female gymnasts in history to possess both Team and All-Around Gold in the same Olympics.
